Cost of Living and Affordability

Tackling Affordability and Providing Tax Relief
Raising a young family in Fairfield County, Rob knows all too well about the rising costs of utilities, healthcare, housing, and childcare. If elected, Rob will use his local and state government experience to:
-
Pass state budgets that keep taxes stable and predictable, continue to pay down pension liabilities, and fund key community projects throughout Bethel, Easton, Fairfield, and Newtown.
-
Support the expansion of programs like the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), property tax credits, and the Child Tax Credit (CTC).
-
Fight for tax cuts for seniors on a fixed income.
-
Advocate for strategic state bonding and aid to offset municipal expenditures and decrease local taxes.
-
Explore potentially creative uses for existing structures to possibly add to the housing stock that fits our communities, which will help to ease the property tax burden on countless families.
-
Advocate for state grants for housing and brownfield remediation for responsible transit-oriented housing and economic development.
Lowering Costs for Connecticut's Seniors
Aging and retiring comfortably in the community we love shouldn’t feel out of reach for anyone. Connecticut's elderly residents deserve to live with dignity, and know that retiring doesn't require leaving their home or neighborhood. Rob sees this up close — his wife Samantha's family has deep roots in Fairfield County. He wants every family, from those just starting out to those who built this town, to be able to stay. Rob will:
-
Work to ensure our seniors can afford to age in their homes, have access to better services, and are given the transportation access they need to stay connected.
-
Find additional ways to lower the cost of prescription drug prices.
-
Invest in job training that boosts the healthcare workforce needed to take care of our aging population.
-
Invest in more accessible and affordable housing options for seniors who wish to downsize.
Lowering Energy Costs and Holding Utilities Accountable
Families and small businesses across the district are feeling the impact of unpredictable utility bills. Rob believes ratepayers, not shareholders, should come first, and he's already proven we can get this done locally. Rob will:
-
Let towns buy power in bulk. The Fairfield RTM passed community aggregation pricing unanimously in October 2024. It's already working next door: Massachusetts towns are saving families hundreds of dollars. We just need Hartford to let Connecticut towns do the same.
-
Buy power smarter. Lock in long-term contracts, like we did with the nuclear power plant at Millstone, instead of leaving ratepayers exposed to volatile market changes.
-
Push to make affordability a factor state regulators must weigh when setting utility profits and rate cases, so families aren't stuck footing the bill for costs that should never have been approved.
-
Support strengthening the state’s power to investigate utility practices and challenge unjustified rate hikes on behalf of residents.
-
Demand responsible infrastructure spending by utilities so unnecessary costs don’t get passed on to ratepayers.
-
Encourage competition and private investment in microgrids and local energy infrastructure to give residents more options and more resilience during outages.
